Over the centuries, the history and economy of Seyne were linked to the production and trade in mules.
The “Maison du Mulet” museum, exhibitions and events bear witness to the history and way of life of the inhabitants of the rural region of Seyne. The museum focuses on the production and trade in mules in the historical context of Seyne and explores contemporary and future uses for these little-known animals.
The museum building represents a typical farm of this mountain region.
The permanent exhibition “le Miracle du mulet” (The miracle of the mule) is in the large, restored barn. The mule, this amazing animal, its history, and the problems linked to hybridization are explained there as well as how it built the wealth of le Pays Seyne.
A temporary exhibition “Les animaux, la nuit” (Animals in the night) is in an ancient cowshed. You will discover in the darkness, the animals living around us in the night. Their songs or calls will accompany you.
Mules, mares, horses, and donkeys graze on the pasture. Ewes and a goat enliven the playground for children.
Mule-drawn coach rides are available every Thursday in the summer and by reservation the other days.
